Due Diligence for Mtkvari 46,4 MW Hydro Power Plant
Project objectives
For the 46 MW hydro power plant Mtkvari, under construction near city of Akhaltsikhe in southeast of Georgia, the consortium Denkstatt GmbH and CES clean energy solutions was awarded a contract by Black Sea Trade and Development Bank and Oesterreichische Entwicklungsbank AG (OeEB) to prepare a due diligence review and a project risk assessment.
Project data
This project comprised construction of a combined earthfill dam and concrete spillway, 9.6 km long pressure tunnel and surge tank. Through a 90 m penstock, water is directed to two Francis turbines in a surface powerhouse.
Project content
JSC Caucasus Energy & Infrastructure and Mtkvari HPP LLC was constructing a run-of-river hydro power plant on the Mtkvari river. The team of CES clean energy solutions checked its technical feasibility and on the basis of a financial model, tariffs were calculated and the project's economic performance presented. Furthermore the scheme's environmental and social impacts was reviewed by Denkstatt.
Services
For the due diligence review, project's basic technical data were checked, civil and plant engineering plans inspected, project risks evaluated, construction status investigated, O&M- and insurance arrangements reviewed and the environmental-social compatibility assessed. On the basis of checked capital costs and attainable electricity tariffs the project's economic performance was presented.
