In course of implementing a safety and fire protection system in the Biology Campus Building of the University of Vienna (UZA 1 Biozentrum), maximum protection for users, persons and the environment was achieved. Since the work was performed during ongoing operations, only a minimum of construction dust was released. In the Biozentrum of the University of Vienna, the safety and fire protection technology was renovated. Since the building was constructed between 1978 and 1982, it was assumed that artificial mineral fibers and/or asbestos may have been used. CES was commissioned to investigate the occurrence of artificial mineral fibers/asbestos deposits, a hazard assessment, and the remediation urgency.

After a research phase, the on-site investigation of existing asbestos-containing materials and artificial mineral fibers was performed, followed by an assessment of the urgency of remediation measures. Based on the inventory (inventory and localization) of asbestos-containing materials and artificial mineral fibers, the planning, tendering and monitoring/supervision of the professional remediation and cleaning of the above-mentioned pollutants was carried out.
